Garnier Ultimate Blends Hair Food Aloe Collection – Review

Let me give you some background info on my hair before we begin. My hair is long (down to my bum), regularly dyed (Mango Twist by Schwarzkopf), not thick, but not wispy thin either & very oily. I either have to wash my hair everyday or use liberal amounts of dry shampoo on non-wash days.

This set instantly caught my eye in Boots – the shape of the bottles are so cute! There were so many different choices for this range too, something for most hair types! Except oily… You never seem to get many shampoos aimed at oily hair these days! The whole Garnier Hair Food range is 98% natural ingredients & 100% vegan which I thought was pretty cool! I’m not vegan, but it’s nice to see it’s easy to find a hair care product for those that are.

I opted for the hair food range aimed at ‘normal’ hair types. This is scented with aloe vera & coconut. The scent is absolutely amazing! The scent lingers all day too, I can always catch a whiff of it! The coconut isn’t too strong either for those of you who aren’t fans of that smell!

Firstly, the shampoo is a clear liquid. It lathers up brilliantly & really does feel like it’s cleansing my scalp. I never really focus on the ends of my hair when I shampoo – whatever runs through it when I’m rinsing it seems to be enough. The first thing I noticed when washing this shampoo out is that my hair felt super soft instantly, without even going to the conditioner. I normally like to use ‘cleansing shampoos’ or the ones that are clear in colour & not creamy usually leave my hair feeling literally squeaky clean & straw like when it’s wet. I did panic at first – I thought this was going to make my hair even more greasy than it already was!

The conditioner is not something I’d usually go for if I’d seen its consistency before buying it. It’s very runny & doesn’t feel like it’s going to do any moisturising of any kind! I still massaged it into the ends of my hair & rinsed it all out.

My hair definitely felt easier to brush through before drying after using this pair! It still felt so freaking soft – I couldn’t get over it! Once dried, I had no residue left & my hair wasn’t greasy like I’d feared! There was some shine to my hair – not exceedingly shiny, but that doesn’t bother me. My hair didn’t feel weighed down either as the conditioner was so lightweight yet still moisturising enough.

I also picked up the 3-in-1 mask – why not try the whole set! The mask is a lot thicker & cleverly marketed. You can use it as a replacement for the other conditioner, a 3 minute mask & rinse or a leave in conditioner on wet or dry hair! I think this is brilliant, especially if you’re not a fan of runny conditioners – I use this in replacement of the bottled conditioner once or twice a week just for an extra level of moisture. I’ve also rubbed it into the ends of my hair when dry & this does a great job too. I just leave it for 10-15 minutes, then jump in the shower & shampoo & condition as normal!

I’ve been using this for around 3 weeks now nearly everyday. It hasn’t stopped my oiliness, I can’t go more than a day or without dry shampoo, but I wasn’t expecting a miracle. I’ve had no buildup of product on my scalp either which is a winner! I’d definitely pick this up again, just as it makes my whole hair feel super nourished & moisturised. I may leave out the bottled conditioner next time though & just get the shampoo & 3-in-1 mask.

I got mine from Boots, I believe they were either half price at the time or Boots normally also do 3 for 2 offers on hair care! Keep an eye out!

Have you tried any of the others?

UPDATE before I published this.. a lady stopped me in the street & told me my hair look ‘beautiful & so shiny!’ Yaaaaaas!
