I first gave this cleanser a try when I got a little 15ml pot in an ASOS beauty box in January – I’d only bought the beauty box as it had a Sunday Riley product in it that was worth more than the box itself! I thought I’d may as well give this a go as it was in there!
The key ingredients of this cleanser I’ve popped below – I’ve got those from the Elemis website for reference!
- Padina Pavonica promotes skin elasticity and cell vitality.
- Mimosa Flower Wax hydrates and retains moisture in the skin.
- Starflower Oil maintains moisture levels.
- Almond, Coconut, & Shea Oils nourish and condition.
- Elderberry Seed Oil firms and plumps.
- Wheatgerm contains vitamins E and F, enriches and nourishes the skin.
- Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that protects against free radical damage.
The first thing I noticed about this cleansing balm is the scent – oh my lord, it is heaven! It literally smells like a spa experience! That instantly sold it for me before I’d even used it! It smells slightly lemongrassy- I think? Think refreshing, invigorating – those spa type scents!
So the way you use this cleanser is to scoop a little bit onto your fingertips and massage it into dry skin. I like to work it in for at least sixty seconds – firstly because the scent is so calming and relaxing! Secondly, I like to make sure that I’ve got all areas of my face and picked up all the makeup. Then you can wash it off using a damp wash cloth.
I don’t know about you, but some balms that I have tried always leave a sticky film on my skin, even after washing off. My skin never feels properly cleansed. With this balm, it literally leaves no residue or film on my skin and it takes off every bit of makeup and grime! I can also massage this over my eye area and into my lashes without it leaving me blind! Some cleansers make my eyesight go misty for ages afterwards!
Now I’m a strong advocate for second cleansing – y’all hear?! But with this balm, you don’t even need to if you’re having a lazy night and can’t be arsed! Since falling pregnant, I haven’t had much energy, so this balm has been a lifesaver in making sure I at least keep my skin clean and unclogged. You can also use this as a nourishing face mask, but I don’t think my skin is dry enough to cope with it layered onto my skin – but if you’re dry or sensitive, this is a great added bonus!
It is on the pricey side for a cleanser – I purchased the full size 100g pot that comes with a wash cloth around end of January time (couldn’t help myself after that tester!) and it was £44. I managed to get it on an offer at Look Fantastic where they had 25% off Elemis products, so that made it easier to purchase!
I definitely recommend this cleanser – it’s soft on the skin, doesn’t break me out and I actually look forward to taking my makeup off as it smells like a mini spa experience! If you’re looking for a cleanser that you want to make you look forward to removing makeup and not a chore – this is the one!
